Lead Frontend Engineer

Work Type: Full Time
Better homebuying for everyone involved

Acre is rebuilding the UK’s £1.4 trillion mortgage market from the ground up, with a completely new, end-to-end management system for mortgages.

Our platform cuts out the unnecessary admin, pain and friction from buying a home. We're covering the entire journey, from figuring out what you can borrow, to getting your keys. We're guided both by the voice of real home buyers and by our close relationships with brokers, lenders and insurers.

Over the past year, mortgage submissions through our platform have grown by 200%, a clear sign that we're helping mortgage businesses scale faster and smarter. As we continue to grow, we're looking for ambitious people to join us in transforming the industry and shaping the future of home buying.

The role:

We are looking for a lead front-end developer that wants to help both make the home buyer process better and build a great frontend engineering team . Your role will be to work closely with other front-end developers and the broader engineering organisation to deliver a smooth and seamless user experience for Acre. You will be highly motivated, be technology agnostic, and be passionate and proud of the work you produce. Our team believes in user-centric product design, and you will be building an iconic, beautiful system unlike anything in the market today.

What you’ll be doing:

As a key role within the engineering team you will be responsible for the design, implementation and testing of the user interface that empowers consumers, brokers and operational functions to efficiently manage the mortgage research and application process.
You will be expected to write reusable, testable and efficient code that produces a seamless and beautiful user experience.
During our software development life cycle, you will be expected to work with the business as a whole, converting business requirements into development tasks as well as mentoring other team members.

You should be ambitious but also pragmatic when needed.

Additionally, as a Lead FE Engineer, you’ll be responsible for helping promote and ensure software engineering best practice and a culture of quality across the Frontend Development team and across the code base. There will also be the opportunity to progress to people management if desired.

Who you will be:

  • Passionate about software engineering and about delivering a quality product.
  • Enjoy creating beautiful and enjoyable user interfaces that delight users.
  • Have an excellent understanding and experience with client-side JavaScript (Typescript), React, and of course CSS and HTML.
  • Committed to using automated testing platforms and unit tests to deliver readable, maintainable code.
  • Proficient with issue management, code versioning, continuous integration and deployment tools.

What we offer:
  • A chance to make an impact within a high growth fintech start-up
  • Monthly team social events, from trips to Brighton to picnics in the park
  • One week of free accommodation for those relocating
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Opportunity to earn equity through our EMI option scheme
  • Company laptop and supporting tech
  • Private healthcare and a cash plan
  • Pension contribution matched by Acre up to 4%
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Breakfast, snacks and drinks provided in our vibrant Shoreditch office

We’re looking for people that will get stuck in and make a difference. We have a great collaborative, entrepreneurial team that are passionate about what they do. If you want to join a team that is tackling a big problem space, then we’d love to hear from you.

We’re eager to receive applications from all backgrounds, including from people of colour, the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, neurodivergent people, parents, carers, and people from lower socio-economic backgrounds. If there’s anything we can do to accommodate your specific situation, please let us know.
